Jeju really boasts it all. From soaring volcanic peaks to pristine coastlines, the island sits pretty in the Korean Strait’s azure waters.

But which activities should you add to your Jeju itinerary? Whether you’re craving adrenaline-pumping escapades, serene encounters with nature, or cultural immersion, we’ve got the lowdown in this article.

Jeju is jam-packed with hidden gems along its scenic coastline.

Fancy seeing Jeju’s beautiful UNESCO highlights in just one day? We think that this stellar tour is the perfect option.

Your adventure kicks off with a stop at the picturesque Woljeongri Beach. Renowned as one of Jeju’s most popular coastal gems, this sandy haven offers breathtaking views. Plus there are plenty of cosy cafes nearby where you can grab a coffee or pastry.

Then it’s time to immerse yourself in the rich history of Jeju’s female divers, known as Haenyeo, at the Haenyeo Museum. Gain insights into their unique way of life and the integral role they play in the island’s cultural heritage.

Also on this tour, you’ll head to Seongsan Sunrise Peak (Ilchulbong) for a light one-hour trek. This UNESCO site, shaped by volcanic activity, offers panoramic vistas of a stunning crater – just remember to wear comfy shoes.

Though, after heading to Ilchul Land & Land Micheon Cave, you’ll also get the chance to visit a Footbath cafe. Swing by for an aroma foot spa that we guarantee will soothe your tired feet.

See the Best of Western and Southern Jeju on a Day Trip

Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls, Jeju

The Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls are one of Jeju’s unmissable landmarks.

Explore the best of West and South Jeju on an epic guided day tour. You’ll start by visiting the breathtaking Camellia Hill Botanical Garden, a sprawling camellia arboretum home to 6,000 camellia trees.

Following the aromatic trail of the arboretum, your next stop is the Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls, aptly named “The Pond of God.” Marvel at the three distinct sections of this captivating waterfall, the third of which flows into the ocean.

Then you’ll be whisked away to Jusangjeollidae, to see unique terrain sculpted by Jeju’s ancient volcanic activity. After a short hike along the farm road, a dramatic cliff awaits. Below this lies the Jisatgae Coast, adorned with imposing stone pillars that showcase Jeju’s storied past.

Hike to the Summit of Mount Hallasan

Hallasan National Park, Jeju, South Korea

Head to Mount Hallasan in spring to see blooming fields of purple azaleas.

We’ve raved about Mount Hallasan National Park in our guide to the best Korean national parks. But you need to add the Mount Hallasan hike to your Jeju itinerary.

The main hiking trail leading to the summit is known as the Seongpanak Trail, starting from the Seongpanak Visitor Center on the east side of the mountain. Another trail, the Gwaneumsa Trail, begins on the south side.

Both trails offer distinct experiences, with Seongpanak being slightly less challenging and Gwaneumsa providing a more strenuous ascent.

You can also book a guided tour, which takes care of all the logistical issues that come with scaling a mountain. This tour takes you along the Eoseungsaengak Trail, where you descend to the Jusangjeolli cliff. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional meal before visiting the serene Yakcheonsa temple, renowned for its natural medicinal spring water.

Then the journey continues to the ethereal Cheonjiyeon Falls, before you finally visit the tranquil green tea fields to sample Jeju’s renowned tea.

Explore the Best of Eastern Jeju on a Day Trip

Seongsan Ilchulbong, Jeju

Ready to see the best of Eastern Jeju? Your first stop on this fun-filled day trip is Manjanggul Cave, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site that houses a world-class lava tube. Delve into the depths of this 7.4-kilometer-long marvel, formed hundreds of thousands of years ago.

Then head back outside and venture to the Bijarim forest, an ancient haven adorned with rare nutmeg trees. Once you’ve taken a leisurely stroll, it’s time to move on.

Nearby, witness a haenyeo diving spectacle. These ladies continue to uphold their breath-holding skills for up to 3 minutes, collecting sea treasures like sea cucumbers and abalone.

The Jeju day trip culminates at the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. Trust us when we say you do not want to miss the epic views of this water-based volcano rising majestically from the ocean.

You’ll be led by a knowledgeable captain, who will be able to tell you more about these magnificent creatures in their undisturbed habitat. Don’t forget your camera – the dolphins come pretty close to the boat, allowing you to get up-close-and-personal with them.

Scuba Diving near Seongsan Ilchulbong

Seongsan Ilchulbong translates to Sunrise Peak and is one of Jeju’s top marine spots.

If you want to find thrills in the ocean, you’ll want to head to Seongsan Ilchulbong. This stunning UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its volcanic crater and is teeming with marine life.

The rich biodiversity, coupled with the clear visibility, makes scuba diving in this area a captivating adventure for both novice and experienced divers alike.

We recommend booking a tour so that you can get the most out of your experience. With options for boat or beach dives, it’s one of the best ways to admire South Korea’s abundant marine life. You can also opt for an introduction to diving if you’re a total newbie.

Kayak on the Hado Sea

4 sea kayakers

You might not think of South Korea as a kayaking hotspot, but venturing out on the Hado Sea off the coast of Jeju is incredible.

The Hado Sea is renowned for its pristine waters and scenic coastal beauty. So it’s safe to say that it provides an idyllic setting for kayakers to paddle along the rugged shoreline and explore hidden coves.

Navigate through crystal-clear waters and enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding cliffs and lush landscapes. All with the majestic Hallasan Mountain as a dreamy backdrop.

Go Tandem Paragliding and Admire Jeju From Above

Paragliding, Korea

Enjoy Jeju from above on a knee-wobbling tandem paragliding experience.

When we say you should see Jeju from a new perspective, we mean that literally.

Paragliding in Jeju Island is a thrilling and awe-inspiring experience that allows you to soar high above the island’s breathtaking landscapes. With its lush greenery, jagged coastlines, and scenic mountains, Jeju provides an idyllic backdrop for a paragliding adventure.

You’ll launch from elevated points around the island, such as the famous Hallasan Mountain or designated paragliding sites along the coast. Once you leap, you’ll begin to gradually glide through the air, taking in panoramic views of the island.

Departing from Seogwipo, the boat submerges you into the depths of the East China Sea. Here, you’re treated to a mesmerising spectacle of marine life and vibrant underwater landscapes.

Better yet, the large viewing windows provide an immersive and safe environment for you to marvel at the underwater ecosystem without getting wet.

Located in Jungmun, the Jeju JET is an adventure activity in Jeju we just had to share. If you fancy something a little bit different, board the rubber dingy and prepare to scream.

You’ll soar 10cm above the ocean at a whopping 80km/h. And, to end with a bang, you’ll experience a thrilling 360 degree turn. Just remember to bring a poncho – or you will get extremely wet.

Make a Splash at Shinhwa World Water Park

We wouldn’t be The Adventure Manual if we didn’t recommend some form of amusement park. And the Shinhwa World Water Park, part of the Shinhwa World resort complex, is an unmissable addition to any Jeju itinerary. If you’re heading there in the summer, that is.

This water paradise serves thrills for visitors of all ages with a variety of exhilarating slides. Or, for something a little more laidback, opt to float along the relaxing lazy river.

Pick (and Eat) Your Own Fresh Jeju Tangerines

Jeju tangerines

Jeju is famed for its delicious tangerines – we promise you that regular fruit will never again suffice.

One of the most unique things to do in Jeju is to pick your own tangerines. We could rave about Asian fruit for days (don’t get us started on Hallabong) and Jeju tangerines are no exception.

There are so many tangerine farms on the island – many of which allow you to visit and pick your own fresh oranges.

The Southernmost Theme Park is the largest eco-friendly certified farm in Jeju, so it’s an excellent place to start. As well as chowing down on delish oranges, you can also opt to take a monorail ride around the park and meet adorable farm animals.
